GERGEN, Donald Lee


Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, September 21, 2005 Donald Lee Gergen, age 67, of Prescott,passed away Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005. He was born in Kearney, Neb., on Dec. 9, 1937, and retired to Prescott in 1997. Don succumbed after a nine-year battle against Alzheimer's. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of San Francisco in Organizational Behavior. He began his career at the Sacramento Bee in 1958, continuing on as a mailer and late union president until 1984. In 1985, he continued his career with the San Francisco Chronicle and Examiner as a mailer, serving as president and principal executive officer of the Northern California Mailers Union #15 from 1994 until his retirement in 1997. Don's thirst for knowledge and gentle soul was demonstrated in his love of travel and his unwavering devotion to his friends and family. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Prescott, as well as Prescott Lodge #330 BPOE. Don is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Linda Sue McCallum Gergen of Prescott; son, Blake Gergen of Everett, Wash.; daughter, Laurie Shreffler (Ed) of Antelope, Calif.; granddaughters, Natalie and Olivia Shreffler of Antelope, Calif.; brother, Richard Gergen (Beverly) of Ashland, Ore.; sister, Kay Richardson (Don) of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; aunt, Doris Nutter of Roseville, Calif.; uncle Albert Waite (Eileen) of Riverside, Mo.
