SCHWARTZ, Harry


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Monday, April 28, 2003 Harry Schwartz, 92, passed away April 26, 2003. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 28, at Green Acres Cemetery, 401 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale. Mr. Schwartz was born April 10, 1911 in Belaya Tzerkov, Russia. He and his mother traveled by ship to the United States to New York when Harry was 9 months old. Harry worked for the U. S. Postal Service while attending college, where he earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education. After retiring from the Postal Service, he taught Special Education in the New York Public Schools System for 20 years. He and his wife, Ethel, moved to Arizona 25 years ago. Harry and Ethel were married 47 years before she passed in November of 1984. He was an active member in the Havurah; Shalom Group and Yiddish Club in Leisure world. Harry is an honorary member of the Holocaust Museum in Washington. He is an avid collector of movie memorabilia and writing instruments: avid theater goer, voracious reader and historian. He is survived by sons, Dr. Albert Schwartz (Pam) of Mesa and Attorney, Arnold Schwartz (Maria) of Los Angeles; 9 grandchildren, Pam, Alison, Jack, Karen, Ben, Amanda, Ian, Lindsey, and Brenden; 2 great grandchildren, Dariane and Jaxon.
