The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 12/09/2003 Irvena Marie Lancaster, 79, of Santa Anna, Texas died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003 at the Coleman County Medical Center in Coleman. Marie was born in Knox County, Texas March 21, 1924 to the late Roger William and Ethel Rose Jackson Matthews. She was raised in Brown County where she attended the Bangs Schools. Marie married Wilbur Cosper in Silver City, New Mexico in 2945 and he preceded her in death in 1974. On Sept. 1, 1979, Marie married Virgil Lancaster in Santa Anna and they have celebrated twenty-four years of marriage. She moved to Snowflake in 1944 where she resided until 1978, then moving to Santa Anna. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Eastern Star and was a bookkeeper and homemaker. She is survived by her husband Virgil Lancaster of Santa Anna, Texas; two daughters, Jean Marie (Clyde) of Anchorage, Alaska, Sherry Ann (Tom) Byars of Snowflake; son, Carl Allen (Sherry) Cosper of Taylor; step-daughter, Lynn Johnson of Fort Worth, Texas; step-son, Phillip Johnson of Fort Worth, Texas; six sisters, Jeanette Brock of Santa Anna, Texas, Mavis Sellers of Coleman, Texas, Shirley Leach of Azel, Texas, Billie Ruth Woods of Granbury, Texas, Margaret Coins of Orvilla, California, Evelyn Dillingham of Santa Anna, Texas; two brothers, Roger W. Matthews of Jefferson, Oregon, Truman Matthews of Burkett, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by twin sisters Mertel and Martie Matthews in 1917 and one brother, W.D. Matthews in 1993.
