Lloyd I. Coppock, 80, of Prescott,died July 6, 2003.
He was born in Columbiana, Ohio Oct. 8, 1922. Lloyd served as a Staff Sergeant/Radio Operator in the U.S. Army, 294th Joint Assault Signal Company from 1942-1945. As such, he was a member of the 3rd wave, which landed at Omaha Beach during the assault on Normandy more commonly known as "D-Day".
Lloyd married Naomi McKenzie, in 1943 and moved to Phoenix in 1947, where he worked for Mountain States Telephone until 1969. He also worked in administration for The Beatitudes Campus of Care in Phoenix. He also served as President of the Paradise Valley School District in 1965. In 1973, he and Naomi moved to Stockton, California, where Mr. Coppock worked as the Administrator of the Plymouth Square Retirement Home for 10 years. In 1983, they moved to Prescott, where Lloyd retired from Larson Development after 15 years.
Lloyd was an avid ham radio operator and member of the Yavapai Amateur Radio Club and the Mingus Mountain Repeater Group, gaining his first ham license in 1956 under the call sign W7PKS (Phoenix) and later N7QZQ (Prescott). He was a member of Church of the Beatitudes in Phoenix and First Congregational Church in Prescott. He was also a member of the VFW.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Judge Charles and Mary Coppock, his brother, Donald and his twin sons, James and John. He is survived by his wife, Naomi, his sister, Fay Nelson, his two daughters, Chris Haese (Paul) of Pinedale and Cathi Cox (Larry), two granddaughters, Jenifer Haese Sumner (Mike) and Tara Haese Mackenzie (Danny), three great-grandchildren, Wade, Kate and Tyler.
A celebration of Lloyd's life will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, July at the First Congregational Church in Prescott, AZ.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church (Prescott) or the Yavapai Humane Society.
