ASHURST, Edward B.

Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg Arizona April 22, 1971 Edward B. Ashurst - As we went to press funeral services were pending for Attorney Edward B. Ashurst whose death in Community Hospital shortly after noon Tuesday came as a shock to this entire area where he had lived and practiced law for the past 28 years. Judge Ashurst, who was 82 years of age – he was born November 7, 1889 in Flagstaff, Arizona – had been a patient in the hospital here several weeks, suffering from pneumonia. Up until a few days ago it was believed he was recovering. Receiving his law degree from Williamette University in Salem, Oregon, he practiced law in that state and was elected a Judge of the Circuit Court, a position he held for six years. At the time of his death he was a member of and active in both the Oregon and Arizona Bar Association. He was a veteran of World War I. He is survived by his wife Inez and two sons, Aaron of Ajo and Henry F. of Tucson. A sister, Mrs. Maude West of Navato, Calif., also survives as well as 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Judge Ashurst’s older brother, the late Henry Fountain Ashurst served for many years as United States Senator for Arizona and won wide fame as an orator.
