KLINE, Jean Ethel

The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Tuesday, April 29, 2003 Jean Ethel Cruikshank Kline, of Phoenix, passed away on April 26, 2003 after a long illness. Jean was born in Boone, Iowa, April 10, 1915. She attended Iowa State University at Ames where she earned her degree in Home Economics, majoring in textiles and clothing in 1937. She became a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority while studying at Ames. In October 1938 she married her sweetheart and devoted husband of 64 years, Roy L. Kline, then a Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. With this promise Jean dedicated herself to a sometimes challenging life within the U. S. Marine Corps family. In 1968 after Roy's retirement from the military and acceptance of other employment, the family moved to Phoenix. Here she became an active member of Assistance League of Phoenix and joined with Church Women of St. Barnabas on the Desert when her health permitted. Along with her charitable work, Jean busied herself with real estate business in Phoenix and Scottsdale. Survivors include her husband Roy L.; daughter Julie Anne Hopper (Dennis); Sons Peter G. (Lee Anne) and Roy C.; four grandchildren Bret and Bennet Hopper, Chris and Kate Kline, all of the greater Phoenix area. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, May 1, 2003, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Barnabas on the Desert Episcopal Church, 6715 N. Mockingbird Lane, Paradise Valley.
