Edwin Suominen, 81, passed away April 26th to his heavenly home.
He is loved and greatly missed by Mary, his wife of 57 years. He is survived by daughter Sue Barton from. St. Augustine, Florida; son Fred of Scottsdale and son Edwin from Washington State. A son, William is deceased. He leaves 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters Hilda Letus and Hilma LaLima in New York and Helen Olund in Minnesota.
Edwin operated a photography studio in New York for 15 years before moving to Arizona in 1978. He was an associate broker with Dan Schwartz Realty.
A veteran of WW2, Edwin was a prisoner of war in a German camp for two years. He escaped from the death march and ended up in a concentration camp in Poland from which he escaped again. He made his way back to the USA before the war ended. Edwin is a member of the Scottsdale Board of Realtors, Luxury Home Tours, Exchangers, VFW and American Prisoners of War.
Viewing will be on Tues., April 29, from 7-9 PM at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd., Scottsdale, AZ.
Services at 11 AM on Wed., April 30, at Phoenix Laestadian Lutheran Church, 32434 N. 43rd St., Cave Creek, AZ.
Burial at National Memorial Cemetery, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd. Phoenix, AZ.
