HALLER, Howard Earl


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 07/31/2003 Howard Earl Haller, 81, died at his home in Show Low July 29, 2003. Howard was born in Cleveland, Ohio. His family moved to Tucson when he was two years old because of his health. They moved back to Ohio where Howard completed high school. Howard served in the National Guard, and in the Army during World War II, but due to his asthma he had to try several times to be accepted into the Army. While serving in the Army he received several medals including seven bronze stars. Howard's college time was spent studying to be a draftsman, and went on to be an Aerospace Engineer. He married Nancy Young July 27, 1946 and have been together for 57 years. Together they lived in Los Angeles and Tucson, moving to Show Low in 1984 when he retired from Hughes Aircraft. They loved to fly, sailboat, motorcycle, field archery, playing golf, and being in the outdoors together. He was also a competitive pistol shooter. Before they were married Howard was very athletic and became a Golden Glove Boxer. While in Los Angeles he also did a little acting. Howard and Nancy are active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Howard served in several callings including the Bishopric in Lakeside, and also together they served for two years at the Mesa Arizona Temple. He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Show Low; three sons, Howard Edward (Rose) of Spokane, Washington, John Davis of McNeil, Mark Bryan of Mesa; one daughter, Deborah Valenzuela of Phoenix; 10 grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Stock and Bette Epley. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Richard Haller and Jack Robinson Haller. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 2 at The Show Low Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1 at Owens Mortuary in Show Low.
