Phoenix Brown, 95, died Aug. 18, 2003 at his home in Alpine.
He was born in Claude, Texas to Hood and Carrie West Brown Aug. 12, 1908. He attended Tucson High School and the University of Arizona. He led a full and productive life. For almost 15 years he worked as a manager and assistant manager at Sears in Tucson, Phoenix, in San Diego and Riverside, California.
He was the first licensed agent for Allstate Insurance in Arizona. During WWII he served in the United States Navy. Phoenix was the owner and manager of Grand Avenue Motors for 36 years and served as president of the Used Car Dealers Association for three consecutive years. He was the president of General Finance and Capitol Finance as well as the president of Phoenix Outdoor Advertising and half-owner of that company for 12 years.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Jean Robertson Brown of Alpine; daughter, Linda Rodrick in California; son, Hood Stevan Brown in Phoenix; and sister, Merdith Newman of Tucson; along with four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 at Jewkes Mortuary in Springerville.
Graveside services will follow at the Alpine Cemetery at 2 p.m.
Jewkes Mortuary, Springerville is in charge of arrangements.
