Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg Arizona October 12, 1972, page 1 Heart Attack Takes Like of Popular Chef – The untimely death of Arnold George (Joe) Wackerman at the age of 48 saddened and shocked his many friends, acquaintances and associates here. He died the evening of October 4 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Phoenix, shortly after his admission. He was visiting with friends, in Mesa when stricken and rushed to the hospital. He had been released from the hospital only last Saturday following treatment for a heart attack and was believed well on the road to recovery. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. October 7 at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Randall officiating and burial followed in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Wackerman, who was born December 19, 1923 in Buffalo and served 20 years in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Major. He won numerous decorations including the Distinguished Service Medal. Mr. Wackerman came to Wickenburg following his discharge from the services in 1962 and became affiliated with the Bar 7 Restaurant as Head Chef, a position he held for more than five years. At the time of his death he was General Manager of the Gold Nugget Restaurant and affiliates. He is survived by his wife Mary Jo; a daughter Karen, at home, and a son Billy in Phoenix.
