RENOWDEN, Edward John, Jr.


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 09/08/2003 Edward John Renowden Jr., 77, died Sept. 4, 2003. He was born Oct. 4, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois. A ball turret gunner on a B-17 flying fortress, Ed was a member of the 34th bomber group achieving the Air Medal for "Meritorious Achievement, Coolness and Courage" in aerial warfare, while flying 32 bombing missions during World War II over Germany before the age of 20. After serving his country, Ed returned to Decatur, Illinois to attend college at Milliken University. On June 9, Ed married his wife of 31 years, Merrie Elleanor. In 1959 they moved west to Scottsdale, where he owned and operated a wholesale hardwood/lumber supply business. In 1973, Ed moved his family to Pinetop. There he opened Northern Hardwoods, a contractor supply lumber yard, with his son E.J. Ed was a member of the White Mountain Sheriffs Posse and the Cholla Bay Sportsman's Club. He was loved by all those who knew him and will always be remembered as a great lover of live and will be missed by all those people that he touched. He is survived by his son E.J. (Lisa) Renowden of Pinetop; two granddaughters; and four grandsons; son Robin (Brenda) Renowden of Gilbert; sister Jeanine of Scottsdale; sister Cindy of Darien, Illinois; brother Phil of Oklahoma. The family will hold a private service. A celebration of his life will be held Sept. 13, at Charlie Clarks in Pinetop at 3 p.m. All those that knew him are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the White Mountain Sheriff's Posse. Owens Mortuary of Show Low is handling the arrangements.
