LARSON, Erna


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 09/11/2003 Erna Larson, 88, died Sept. 8, 2003 at home in Snowflake. Erna was born and amd raised in Taylor where she attended elementary school. She graduated from Snowflake Union High School and attended Northern Arizona University for a year before going to Salt Lake City where she attended and graduated from LDS School of Nursing. She worked in some hospitals in the area, and in clinics for local doctors She worked for a time in the old Snowflake Maternity Hospital. Many people came to her home with prescriptions from doctors for her to five the vaccinations. She also worked as the school nurse for the Snowflake Union High School District. It was in 1939 that she married Ivan S. Larson in the Mesa Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a lifelong member of the LDS Church and served in various capacities in the church auxiliaries, and most recently she worked at the Beehive Clothing Distribution Center in Snowflake. Erna loved gardening and canned what she grew. She was a great cook and baker and many will always remember her bread. She lived and cared for her family and enjoyed seeing to their needs. Erna is survived by her husband Ivan S. Larson of Snowflake; three sons, Monti S. Larson, Evan J. (Deanna) Larson, and Ivan G. (Shawna) Larson of Snowflake; one daughter, Sandra (Kayle) Adams of Show Low; one brother, Klye Shumway of Taylor; three sisters, Ruth Porter of Snowflake and Bernice Skinner and Barbara McGrath both of Mesa; 23 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne J. Larson and a daughter, Elaine Beaman. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. at the Snowflake Main Street Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A viewing will be held from 6-8 Friday, Sept. 12 at Owens Mortuary in Snowflake and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Owens Mortuary handled arrangments.
