PINA, Scottie, Sr.


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 09/11/2003 Scottie Pina, Sr., 61, died Sept. 6, 2003 at the PHS Indian Hospital in Whiteriver. As a young boy Scottie worked at the Salt River Canyon Store, later he was hired by Jaqways Mining and Chrostyle Mining Company. He moved to Los Angeles to train as a welder and worked on a ship on the coast. In 1968 he went to work for the Superior Copper Mine until 1982, when the mine closed, he then again returned to the Fort Apache Reservation and worked for FATCO. In 1990 Superior Mine asked him to come back until 1992 when he moved to Tucson to work at the Asarco Mine, retiring in 2001 for medical reasons. Scottie has been serving the Lord for 46 years. In 2001 he became a doctor of religion. He always enjoyed the outdoors and activities with his family. He loved and always prayed for his children and grandchildren. Scottie is survived by his wife, Serena Pina of Cibecue; 14 children, Jacob, Connie, Rebecca, Scottie, Jr., Darwin, Myrna, Avery, Geneva, Brenda Nosie, Irma, Noreen, Joyce, Norbert, Jr., and Joseph Goseyun; one brother, Angel Pina, Sr.; one sister, Delores Pina; 36 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two uncles, Kay Lewis and Wallace Davis, Sr.; four aunts, Cosetta Murphy, Laudie Case, Annie Leslie, and Dora Kessay; eight god-children, Brian Aragon, Tiffany Henry, Chavez Henry, Gerald Kessay, Jamie Dosela, Monica Nastirar, Sheba Cuddo, and Kesha Kessay. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. at the Cibecue Cottonwood gym, with a two wake beginning Friday, Sept. 12 at 4 p.m. at the family home in Cibecue. Owens Mortuary of Show Low handled arrangements.
