Ron Phillips was born on Dec. 29, 1946 in Phoenix, Ariz. After his birth, his family moved to Globe, where they lived until moving again, this time to Torrance, Calif., when Ron was five. He attended Torrance Elementary and graduated from Torrance High School in 1965.
He went on to attend and graduate from the Don Martin School of Radio Arts and Sciences in 1966. With his radio announcer license in hand, he moved to Fort Bragg, Calif. to begin his career at the local radio station. His morning program was a favorite of the listeners, who often stopped by the station to say hi. Ron’s gregariousness and warm sense of humor made it easy to make friends wherever he went. He retired from radio in 1999 and moved to Morro Bay with his wife.
After his diagnosis of cancer, the family moved again to Paradise, Calif. to be nearer his medical team. Although his cancer was in remission, Ron passed away peacefully on March 2, 2010. He is preceded in death by his parents, Stewart Ivan and Dorothy Phillips, of Torrance.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; his daughter, Amanda Phillips, of Eureka; his son, Tyler Phillips, of Fort Bragg; his stepson, Derek; and his sister, Debbie Phillips, of San Pedro. A celebration of Ron‘s life will be held in Fort Bragg, Calif.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the American Cancer Society.
