SAIZ, Prospero B.


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 11/06/2003 Prospero B. Saiz, 86, died Nov. 2, 2003 in Snowflake after a long illness. He was born May 4, 1917 in Concho to Bruno and Feliz Saiz. He was the third of seven children. In 1943, he was hired by the Santa Fe Railroad in Winslow and worked for them from 1943 until his retirement July 1, 1977, at the age of 60. During his retirement years, he enjoyed visiting with friends, volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul, doing yard work and attending church. He especially enjoyed watching and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchilden. "P.B. experienced a second stroke in 1996. After his stroke he and Nellie moved to Snowflake where they resided until his death. Prospero is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Nellie Saiz; son, Prospero Saiz, Jr.; daughters and sons-on-law, Phyllis and Larry Chavez, Pat and Ed Hutchins and Yvonne and Tino Lopez; sister-in-law, Helen Velasquez; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sisters, and a granddaughter. Holy rosary was held Thursday, Nov. 6 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church located at 220 W. Second St. Mass of a Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Dan Hussey, celebrant. Interment will be in Desert View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to R&A Hospice and Palliative Care, 5658 Hwy. 260, Suite 5, Lakeside, AZ 85929. Arrangements are under the direction of Greer's Mortuary of Winslow.
