Venice L. Chesser, 72, died Thursday, March 4, 2010.
Mr. Chesser was born March 2, 1938, in Poarch, Ala., to John L. and Ruby L. (Bryant) Chesser. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1969 and was a Vietnam veteran. He was a rancher and breeder of the special Barb horse. He took special interest in those in his community and Native American rights. He was an advocate against violence and cruelty to humans and animals. He believed in God and country and would often say, “You have to stand for something, or you’ll fall for anything.” He will be greatly missed by both family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife W. Greer Chesser; daughters Angela Chesser, Christine Chesser (Tony) Miller; Katelynn A. Chesser, Alexandra Chesser, Rebecca Chesser and C.J. Chesser; son J.D. M. Chesser; sisters Louise Taylor, Deborah Chesser, Shelia Chesser and Susan Daley; and brothers Neal, Ray, Windell, Clayton, Johnny and Dale.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at The National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 North Cave Creek Road, in Phoenix. Condolences to the family can be sent to condolences@Lozanos-FlagstaffMortuary.com .
