The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 01/02/2004 Margaret Lucinda "Loa" Reidhead Stewart In the presence of family members, and under the care of her daughter Margaret, the final breaths of the long and interesting life of Margaret Lucinda Reidhead Stewart were taken the afternoon of Dec. 15, at the home of her granddaughter Lin Marshal in Glendale. Margaret Lucinda, 101, was born July 26, 1902 at home in Taylor. She was the second of ten siblings to the family of Charles Oscar and Margaret Alice "Maggie" Kaye Reidhead. Her last sibling, LaVon Hamrick, died July 2003 at the age of 93. Loa and her husband S.L. "Bill" Stewart, together raised seven children with love and devotion. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill , a victim of Leukemia, in 1985; her sons, Charles "Buck" in 1969; Karl "Pete" in 1970; daughter Jewell "Jynx" in 1998. She is survived by two daughters, Loa Laverl Smith of Yuma, Margaret Alice Stewart of Phoenix; two sons, S. Lan of Lebanon of Oregon, Roy J. of Phoenix; and 24 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren. Loa spent her life loving and giving to others, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Loa had a very exciting adventurous life, from the horse and wagon days to the space stations. When young her family lived in Linden and the Cooley Ranch, before building the two story house in Show Low on Main Street near Old Linden Road. She graduated from the eighth grade in Show Low, went to high school in Snowflake and as she said the university of hard knocks. She taught sewing at the school in Whiteriver, befriending many of the Apache people, expressing love toward these people throughout her life. Bill and Loa worked throughout the state of Arizona, making many friends and having many experiences, They settled in Glendale in 1943 where they owned the Stewart Sand and Gravel Company, had custom farming and land leveling. Loa, an active member of the LDS Church throughout her lifetime and a member of the Daughters of the Pioneers and the Cow Bells. Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 27 at the Menke Funeral Home, 12420 North 103rd Avenue in Sun City from 1-5 p.m. Services will be held at the Rose Lane LDS Ward, 5033 North 38th Avenue in Phoenix with viewing at 10 a.m. Service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30. Interment will be held at the RestHaven Cemetery on the NE corner of 63rd Avenue and Northern in Glendale.
