Betsey L. Clemens, 71, died Jan. 2, 2004 at her home in Snowflake. 

She was born Oct. 26, 1933 in Waukegan, Illinois. Betsey, the "Purple Hat" died of complications of asthma and pneumonia. She was from Antioch, Illinois, and made her way to Snowflake via Long Beach, California. She was employed with the Navajo County Sheriff's Office as a dispatcher II in the Detention Center. She will be very much missed by her family, friends and especially Mr. Jenkins.
 
She is survived by her husband Emerson Clemens; son, David Young; daughter, Lhindah (Young) Straw; step-sons, Keith and Kevin Clemens; step-daughter, Debbie; along with 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
