Edna M. Snyder
Edna Snyder, born July 26, 1912 in Douglas, Arizona, to James Martin Mortenson and Emily Hawkins Mortenson, passed away February 28, 2010.
Edna is the last of 6 children born to James and Emily and the only child born in the United States as her other brothers and sisters were born in Mexico.
She grew up on a farm in the Sulfur Springs Valley, learning how to gather eggs among other chores, one of which was poking a hole in the ground so her father and other siblings could plant potato slips.
She held various jobs a retail clerk, private detective, cafeteria staff, school crossing guard, school bus driver and secretary in the audio visual department for Madison School District.
Following her retirement, she put in countless hours as a volunteer for the Devonshire senior center and had a truck driver training business. She loved to dance and cook and was a tireless worker at whatever she had going on at the time.
She is survived by her daughters, Gwen Wolf (Salem, OR) and Myrna Scherer (Phoenix, AZ), 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Also surviving are many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wilmer Reid Snyder, son-in-law, Art Wolf, grandson, Byron Carter and her last sibling, Florence Nelson of Hurricane, UT, who passed at the age of 101 in September 2009.
Thanks go to the members of the LDS church who have known and visited Edna over the last few years and the staff and administration at Huger Mercy Living Center, her residence since 2007. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 5, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at Greenwood Memory Lawn Chapel, 719 N. 27th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85009. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery.
