Mrs. William Stapley, wife of William Stapley of the College dairy farm, died Tuesday at 10:30am, at St Joseph's hospital, following an operation several days ago.
Mrs. Stapley has been a resident of Arizona many years coming here from Utah in an early day. She has lived in Tempe at the College dairy farm, of which her husband, William Stapley, has had charge, for several years.
Mary Ellen Billingsley Stapley was born in Provo, Utah, Aug 20, 1864. Coming to Arizona in the early days she was married Nov 27, 1888, 38 years ago, to William Stapley, in Mesa.
Mrs. Stapley is survived by a husband, William Stapley and eight children, William Henry Stapley Jr, Thomas Leslie Stapley, Delbert Leroy Stapley, Mrs. Charles Boren, Mrs. Emil Stein, Mrs. John Matthews, Mrs. Lawrence Ellsworth, Mrs. Chas H Spafford, with twenty-eight grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Ida Robson, and a brother, John Billingsley, survive the deceased.
Mrs. Stapley was a woman of fine character and lived a useful, happy life, beloved by all who knew her, and her death is mourned by a large number of friends.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at Third Ward church in Mesa, with burial in the cemetery at that place.
