WILLIAMS, Roy Glen


Eastern Arizona Courier, Safford, Arizona Sunday, March 14, 2010 3:30 AM MST Roy Glen Williams August 24, 1940 ~ February 23, 2010 Roy passed away following a battle with cancer. He was born in Bisbee to Leslie W. and Laverne (Kennedy) Williams. He attended Bisbee schools and graduated from Bisbee High School in 1967. He was a member of the 1967 champion Bisbee Puma baseball team. Roy attended NAU from 1967 to 1971. He was employed by Phelps Dodge Corporation as an underground miner in the Copper Queen branch from 1971 to 1971. He transferred to Phelps Dodge Morenci (now known as Freeport McMoRan Morenci Operations) as a haul truck driver, haulage supervisor and than was an administrative supervisor until his retirement in January of 2009. Roy is survived by his mother, Laverne Williams of Bisbee; his wife, Vicki of Bisbee; his son, Norman; his daughter, Shannon (Paul) McCarthy of Morenci; his daughter, Lorah (Steven) Pierpont of Morenci. His beloved grandchildren also survive him: Zachary, Bobby, Gabriel, Brayden, Matthew, Steven, Tristan, Aleeya, Benjamin, Trey and Alyssa, as well as his brother, Jim (Bonnie) of Prescott; sister Faye (Russell) Griffith of Tulsa, Okla.; his special nieces and families: Sheri (Pete) Lorbeck and Kelsey and Kendra of Mesa, Keri (Dave) Terry and Jake of Ahwatukee, Christy and Carol Ann of Phoenix, Cheryl and Isaiah and Noah of Prescott; plus many cousins and friends. Ray was predeceased by his father in 2000. A memorial service was held Saturday, Feb. 27, at 1 p.m. at the Warren Community Church. Care was entrusted to Alex Espinosa Bisbee Funeral Home, Alex Espinosa, funeral director.
