Frank Bielec, 64, a cabinet maker for the Arizona Department of Public Safety and prisoner of Nazi concentration camps in World War II, died July 27, 1986, at Humana Hospital, Phoenix.
Mr. Bielec, of Phoenix, was born in Poland, and moved to Arizona in 1956 from Canada. He was a master cabinet maker and presented Nancy Reagan with an original wood piece with a freedom bell and Polish Eagle with Solidarity carved on it. He was a member of the Polish underground during World War II and was captured and held prisoner from 1940 to 1945 in various camps, including Auschwitz in Poland for two years. He was rescued by U.S. Soliders and spent three years in the Military Police. After the war, he spent a year in Canada and then immigrated to the United States, working in Chicago and Detroit before moving to Phoenix. He joined the United States Army in 1947 and was an active member of the Phoenix Polish Club.
Survivors include his wife, Klara; daughter, Elke Schulz; three sisters; and one brother.
