Truman
The Arizona Republic 3/16/2010
A Life Well Lived Our father, Truman N. Cook, was born February 23rd, 1926, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Robert L. and Mary Jane Cook. While living in Missouri, he married the love of his life, Eula, with whom he shared four daughters. Jane Howry (Bob), Nancy Hamlet (John), Cindy McClanathan (Michael), and Mary Ann Castelhano (Ed). Upon leaving Missouri in 1955, they chose to settle in Phoenix, Arizona. As a resident of Phoenix, he formed CB Construction Company, constructing both residential and commercial buildings as a General Contractor. His faithful service led him to assist in the planning, development, and construction of numerous churches. His service to the community began as a member of the Isaac School District Governing Board.
His interest in supporting Christian education led him to fund the Cook-Bishop Scholarship at Grand Canyon University where he later received the degree of Doctor of Public Service. His vision and dedication to Senior Adults of Arizona led him to be a Founder of the Arizona Southern Baptist Retirement Centers of Arizona. During his tenure he served as a member and President of the Board of Directors of the Arizona Baptist Retirement Centers, Inc. He also received the Distinguished Donor Award from the Baptist Senior Life Ministries and the Arizona Baptist Retirement Center in recognition of his outstanding contributions and support. He was also a driving force behind the vision and leadership in planting the Assisted Living Green Houses at the Baptist Village Youngtown Campus. In recognition, the project was constructed in the names of Truman and Eula Cook.
In service to his Lord, our father served as a Bible Study teacher, Deacon, and worked with fellow believers in the establishment of First Southern Baptist Church of Sun City West. His faithful commitment to his Lord, family, and community has served as a role model to his wife, children, 11 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren who survive him. Our father went home to be with his Lord March 9th, 2010. Surely our father heard the words of our Lord, "Well done faithful servant." Matthew 25:21 We love you Dad. Your Family.
