The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 03/16/2010 Beatrice Cathryn Lynn of Show Low went home to be with the Lord March 6, 2010, three weeks after celebrating her 100th birthday. Mrs. Lynn was a beloved long-time resident of McNary and Show Low whose life touched many in the White Mountains. Her life was a blessing to all who knew her and admired her passion for the Lord and her dedication to the musical enrichment of her students. Beatrice was born Feb. 13, 1910, in Muskogee, Okla., to the late Basil Calvin and Jennie Cathryn (Hogan) Hammond. She attended Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Ark., where she studied music and art. Later she continued her education at what would become Northern Arizona University. She married Reverend Daniel Lynn Dec. 17, 1952. Together they served for many years at Blooming Grove Baptist Church in McNary, where Mrs. Lynn played the organ. She also taught music for many years in the McNary schools. In the 1980s the couple moved to Show Low, where they resided together until Reverend Lynn's death in 1995. Beatrice continued past the age of 90 to play the organ at First Baptist Church of Show Low and gave piano lessons to many children and adults, whom she adored, throughout the community. She is survived by step-daughter Dolores Staton of Texas; two sisters Thelma Collins of Calif., Marian Reed of Oklahoma; nieces; nephews; and by many grateful former students and friends throughout the White Mountains and across the country. She was preceded in death by her husband Reverend Daniel M. Lynn; son Robert Forteson of Show Low. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 11, at the First Baptist Church of Show Low, 700 N. Central Ave. in Show Low. The concluding service and interment followed at the Show Low Cemetery, where she was be laid to rest along side her beloved husband, Reverend Daniel M. Lynn.
