SHUGART, Alice


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 02/03/2004 Alice Shugart, 70, died Jan. 27, 2004. She was born in Dolores, Colorado. When she was five years old her family moved to Arizona. They lived in a Sawmill camp in the White Mountains for a couple of years before moving to Snowflake. Alice has lived in Snowflake ever since. She attended school there and married Frank Shugart of Overgaard before completing her senior year. Alice raised her family in Snowflake and then went to work as a cook in the school cafeteria. Thirteen years later she taught art and pottery making at Northland Pioneer College. Alice loved working in crafts and was an excellent seamstress and quilt maker. She could take scraps of material and make a beautiful quilt. Alice sold her pottery and quilts at arts and craft shows throughout the state. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved everyone she met. Alice is survived by her husband, Frank Shugart of Snowflake; one son, Louis A. (Brenda) Shugart of Logandale, Nevada; four daughters, Candy (Keith) Pundt of Snowflake, Suzan (John) Clark of Grenada, Mississippi, Kelly (Wayne) Jones of Taylor, Donna (William) Rogers of Taylor; one brother, Douglas Howard of Boise, Idaho; three sisters, Donna Waite of Safford, LaDawn Hancock of Winslow, Patricia Randall of Safford; 22 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister, and four grandsons. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 2 at the Snowflake Main Street Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment will be at the R.V. "Mike" Ramsay Memorial Cemetery in Snowflake. Owens Mortuary of Snowflake handled the arrangements.
