HOLGATE, Paul Livingstone

The Daily Miner, Kingman, AZ 2/3/2010 Paul Livingstone Holgate peacefully and acceptingly met the end of his path on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010. Born to Barney and Ruth Holgate on April 27, 1952, in Hollywood, Calif., Paul was the middle child in a family of five children. His siblings are Rebecca (Becky) Lindberg, Stephen (Steve) Holgate, Daniel (Dan) Holgate, and John Holgate. Paul trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior and believed worship and fellowship with others to be a basic foundation in his life. He prayed for others and appreciated all who were praying for him. Growing up, his family lived in Whittier, Calif., where Paul graduated from Pioneer High School in 1971. Directly out of high school, Paul was proud to serve our country for four years in the Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS Alamo and the USS Navasota. He moved to Arizona after his honorable discharge and attended Mohave Community College, earning three associate degrees of Arts and Sciences. Paul began his career with the Arizona Department of Transportation in 1978, working with the Motor Vehicle Division. He retired with 29 years of dedicated service on June 30, 2008. Paul enjoyed his work and considered his co-workers family. He was devoted to serving customers with warmth and a cheerful sense of humor. Paul's own blended family brought him much love and joy. He is survived by six children, Amy Wilson, Charles Hammond, Christopher Holgate, Clayton Holgate, John Harter, and Mary (Hammond) Akers. His loving and faithful wife, Joyce Holgate, shared a wonderful time with Paul in worship, travel, home and daily life. Paul did not leave behind a legacy of earthly wealth and vocational accomplishments but rather one of joy, love, and an unwavering walk with the Lord. Those who remember Paul will undoubtedly recollect an infectious sense of humor he delighted in using at every opportunity. We will recall his unmatched devotion to his family and those he held dear. We will be inspired as we think back on a man who never complained or questioned God's plan for him, even as he suffered. Paul was a giving husband, an unparalleled father, a respected brother and a cherished friend. If you were the guy standing in front of him in the line at the grocery store - he was just that nice man who made a corny joke, and brightened your day, even if just a bit. You will be missed, Dad. You will be cried over and yearned for. But at the end of it all, we will remember your legacy ... and rejoice. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20, at Praise Chapel, 419 Harrison St., Kingman. Following the service, a time of celebration and fellowship will be held at White Wind Tiger Foundation, 409 East Andy Devine.
