Copper Basin News 3/17/2010 Consuelo P. Velasco, 83 of Tucson, passed away March 13, 2010 in Tucson after an 11-year fight with cancer. Born in Hayden Jan. 1, 1927, to Fidel and Concepcion Martinez Padilla, she had been a life-time resident of Arizona, living most of her life in the Copper Basin area before moving to Tucson. Consuelo was the Valedictorian of her high school graduating class and had served her community as a city council member for the Town of Hayden. She was an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Hayden. A devoted, loving, caring mother, grandmother and friend, she was an angel on earth and considered each one of her children a miracle. She loved each of them equally and dearly. She will be loved and remembered by all who knew her. Survivors include her six children, three daughters, Olivia Velasco of Oro Valley, Arizona, Christine (Gary) Petersen of Apple Valley, Minnesota, and Gina (John) Hennessy of San Antonio, Texas; three sons, Bernardo (Kathy) Velasco of Tucson, Rey (Debbie) Velasco of New Hope, Minnesota, and Fidel (Anita) Velasco of Los Angeles, California. She is also survived by her sister Frances Aranda of Hayden; 14 grandchildren, Bernie, Jr., Julie, Nicole, Austin, Tess, Chelo, Tom, Keith, Scott, Danny, Caitlin, Sophia, Cesario, and Gracie; two great grandchildren, Kenzi and Kevis as well as many nieces and nephews. The visitation will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 19 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayden. Rosary will be recited at 10:30 followed by the Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by her nephew, Fr. Ed Soto. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Hayden.
