Santiago G. "Jimmie" Guzman, 58 of Kearny, passed away in Phoenix Friday, March 12, 2010. He was born in Ray, Arizona Nov. 25, 1951.
Jimmie worked for 30 years in the mine as a maintenance mechanic. He was a member of USW Local 915 serving as a recording secretary, treasurer, chief steward and on the negotiating committee.
He enjoyed decorating his yard for Christmas and Halloween each year to the delight of all his neighbors and the rest of the town and was skilled in woodworking, drawing, painting and all art in general. In his younger years, he was known as a real softball player of dedication.
Survivors include his wife, Angie Guzman of Kearny; one son, Brian Guzman and grandson Luke of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and one daughter, Andrea Guzman of Mesa.
Jimmie's parents also survive him, Frank and Betty of Dudleyville. There are four brothers and one sister, Frank of North Carolina, Danny (Irma) of Dudleyville, Robert of Dudleyville, John of Phoenix and Laura (Michael) Real of Kearny, also many nieces and nephews and godchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Norma Celis.
Services were held Tuesday, March 16, at Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church in Kearny with the Rosary recited at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian celebrated by Fr. James Aboyi. Interment was at Mountain View Cemetery in Hayden.
