THOMANN, Dennis A.


Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Thursday, March 18, 2010 Dennis A. Thomann, 94 died Tuesday, March 16, 2010. Mr. Thomann was born Jan. 27, 1916, in Kenmore, N.Y., the son of Dennis and Mary Thomann. He was involved in the family business of paving contractors. Later, he started his own business, "Dennison Contracting," with his four sons. While involved in insurance sales with Prudential Insurance, he became top salesman. As he was growing up, he practiced and taught gymnastics, and to the surprise of his friends, they were shown a photo of him doing a handstand on the top outer edge of an eight-story building. For three years, he worked for the circus, performing on the trapeze and other gymnastic routines. He was very active in the community including volunteering as a fireman for decades and also serving as Erie County Deputy Sheriff in the Mounted Police Division with his horses. One of his favorite activities included boating, and he was a longtime acting member of the Buffalo Yacht Club. He loved playing tennis regularly, which was one of his true pleasures. After retirement, he moved to Florida with his wife and mother of his children, Genevieve, where they continued an active social life. In 1982, they moved to Flagstaff to be closer to their children, who also lived in Arizona and Texas. Mr. Thomann is survived by wife Louise Soucha, and sons Timothy, Michael, Dennis and Douglas. He was preceded in death by wife Genevieve Marie Thomann, who died Feb. 3, 1993, and daughter Cyndi.
