Thomas Eugene O'Brien, 82, of Happy Jack, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Arizona Heart Hospital in Phoenix.
Mr. O'Brien was born and raised in Rosemead, Calif., where he stayed until he entered the U.S. Navy in 1944. After his military service, he worked at Whittier Dairy and then Glaser Brothers Tobacco Company as a traveling salesman until 1975. He then went into trucking, which he did until coming to Winslow in 1994. He then drove school bus for the Winslow School District. In 1995, he and his wife moved to their home in Happy Jack and worked highway construction hauling asphalt.
Mr. O'Brien enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, target shooting, woodworking, his dog, Kasey, and being of help wherever he was needed. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and past president of the Montebello Sportsman Club.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Darlene O'Brien; sons Dennis O'Brien and Terry (Janet) O'Brien; one sister; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Michael O'Brien.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. O'Brien's name to Arizona Heart Hospital, 1930 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix, AZ 85016.
