Joe Thomas "Indian Joe", 88, of Gallup, New Mexico died Feb. 7, 2004.
He was born June 24, 1915 in Gallup, New Mexico. Joe came to the White Mountains when he was 16 years old. Joe resided in the towns of McNary and Maverick until 1972. He worked as a log cutter for 35 years. He worked for several logging companies, longest was the Southwest Forest Inc. Through his journey of life he was a respected, hard worker, full of kindness and foremost a great spiritual teacher and leader.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Thomas; three sons, Leo, Leroy, and Dewayne Thomas; and three daughters, Arlinda Thomas, Ola Mae Springer, and Emma Jean Martel. In addition 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Feb. 11, in Gallup, New Mexico.
