James. C. Jones, Jr. 92, passed away on March 14, 2010 at Heritage Health Care Center in Globe.
Jones was born on March 26, 1917 in Geronimo, Ariz., the son of James C. Jones, Sr. and May LePhiew Jones. He attended elementary school at Copper Hill and graduated from Globe High School in 1939.
He married Rosalyn Bozovich of Miami in 1940. Jones served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He returned to the mine, worked his way up to powder foreman at Miami Copper and later served on the security force for its successors until he retired in 1981.
James was dedicated to home and family. In the mid-1950s, Jimmy would come home after nine-hour days at the mine to work with his wife, Rosie, to build their own home, block by block. That “turquoise house” still stands. It served as a bus stop for generations of school kids and a landmark for those giving directions in the area.
Jimmy loved his yard, having drilled a well with his partner, Mr. Bill Burns. That well provided water to keep his property filled with a lawn, trees, flowers, and a yearly garden. The well also kept his many animals, which always included chickens and pigeons, the occasional horse, cow, goat, pig and of course dogs, well watered.
He is survived by his son, James G. (Ingrid) Jones, of Arequipa, Peru; daughters, Linda (David) Pearce of Claypool, Ariz.; Patricia (Jack) Schultz of Camp Verde, Ariz.; Melissa (Ravi) Jones-Krishnamurthy of Las Flores, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosie; brother, Jack Jones; and sisters, Nancy Henderson, Mae Garrett, and Ada Kieren.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, March 22 at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Miami.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m., Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 10 a.m.
Lamont Mortuary of Globe is assisting the family.
