The Arizona Republic 3/18/2010 Gaulbert A. Castro, 81, Born July 12th, 1928 in San Carlos, Philippines. Bert passed away at Parkside Manor Care Home in Phoenix, AZ, Sunday March 14th, 2010. Bert earned his bachelors in the Philippines, then he came to the U.S. in 1963 and worked as a college typing teacher. It was during this time that he met his wife Nadiya. They started a family and eventually settled in the Phoenix area in 1973. Bert worked as an Auditor for Maricopa County for the majority of his career. In retirement he remained quite active to make a difference in people's lives -- involved with the Lion's Club, leading bible studies and prayer groups, writing and publishing a weekly newsletter for the Holy Spirit Filled Association and contributing stories for local Filipino community publications. He was an avid league bowler, home-town sports fan and enjoyed fishing. He was a great father and friend to many. Bert and his light-hearted and comforting spirit will be missed. Bert was preceded in death by his wife Nadiya. He is survived by his son Andrew and his wife Lorri, daughter Ursula and her husband Mark, brothers Romulus, Ronnie and family, extended family in the Philippines, and his companion Donna. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday March 20th, at 10am at St. James Church, 19640 N 35th Ave, Glendale, AZ 85308. Following the mass, burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery 2033 North 48th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85008.
