The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 02/20/2004 Velma E. Anderson Gibson died Feb. 14, 2004. She was born March 13, 1911 in Gilbert, the first child of Bill and Margaret Anderson. Velma was a lifelong Gilbert/Mesa resident. She graduated from Mesa High School, Tempe Normal Teachers College (ASU). She taught at Lincoln School in Mesa. She has been involved in many organizations and was one of the founders of the Mesa Country Club. Velma married W.P. "Hoot" Gibson in 1932. Hoot preceded her in death in 1990. She is survived by a daughter, Georganne; husband of Dale Hallock; son, Bill (Trish) Gibson. From her children she has six grandchildren Mike, Leilani, Gordon, Kim, Vickie and Guy and from these grandchildren she has twenty great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Velma's great love was for the desert and the natural instincts of being a cowgirl all her life. the ranch work she and Hoot shared together gave her great pleasure over many years. She and Hoot also traveled the world and after her death she traveled to many other countries with her children. Grave side services will be held at the City of Mesa cemetery, 1212 N. Center St., at 11 a.m. Feb. 20. The family appreciates the service given Velma by Iren's Care Home in Gilbert and suggests that those who would like to give a gift in appreciation of Velma's life consider Trinity Hospice, 6245 N. 24th Parkway, Phoenix, AZ 85016, Suite 200A, as they aided her comfort in her final weeks. Meldrum Mortuary of Mesa handled arrangements.
