Fredrick Alvin Thompson, 57, of Victoria, Texas died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004 after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Creston, Iowa to Margaret J. Harpin and the late Clarence Alvin Thompson. Fred was raised in Victoria, Texas and served in the US Navy stationed in California during the Vietnam war, then lived in Arizona for 35 years of his life. He worked as an electrician repairman in the Navy. Fred also worked for several construction companies as an electrician in Phoenix and Mesa.
Working in electrical/AC/heating maintenance employee for the Mesa School District for five years and the St. Johns School District for 10 years, and worked for the Chandler School District as part-time custodian for the last four years, just prior to moving back to Victoria, Texas. He also had his own commercial cleaning business for a few years. Fred loved doing woodworking in his spare time. He loved his faith, family and all his many friends abroad, in Arizona and Texas.
Fred was a member of the St. Johns the Baptist Catholic Church while living in St. Johns. While residing in Mesa and Chandler he attended Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mesa.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannie Thompson; daughters, Tammy O'Neill and Nancy Tryon, both of Victoria, Texas; son, Johnny Thompson of Queen Creek; sister, Doris Haskett of Salem, Oregon; and seven grandchildren, Sean Ward, Gypsy Taylor, Blake Palmer, Joshua Waite, Delilah Sherwood, Stephanie Ward, and Joshua Thompson; mother, Margaret J. Thompson of Mesa.
Rosary was held Feb. 3 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, with funeral services held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church Feb. 4, and burial in the Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, all held in Victoria, Texas with full military honors, under the auspices of the Victoria County Veterans Council, AL, CWV, VFM, DAV, MCL, MOWW, EX-POW, MOPH, VVA and the KWV.
