Effie Cleveland Estes, 90, died Friday, April 18, 2008, at her residence in Eagar. She was born Dec. 28, 1917, in Alpine to Carlos Carl Cleveland and Ruth Hamblin.
Effie graduated from college at the age of 52 and taught school for 10 years, retiring in 1981. She served a genealogy mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah. Effie enjoyed hand quilting, flower and vegetable gardening and reading. Her top priority was caring for children.
She is survived by her daughters, Bette (Jack) McCall of Eagar, Wendy (Leland) Crowther of Eagar and Tammy (Arthur) Quetel of Alpine; sons Corwin (Sharon) Estes of Eagar, Lonnie Estes of Safford, Daniel Estes of Alpine and Michael (Iris) Estes of Alpine; sisters Buela Booth of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Elaine Moody Eastmond of Orem, Utah; 28 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Elzy Estes; brother Clayton Cleveland; grandson Bryce Estes; and daughter-in-law Kay Estes.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 22, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Eagar Stake Center. Interment followed at the Alpine Cemetery.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the caring hospice staff who cared for their mother. Burnham Mortuary of Eagar handled arrangements.
