Bates, 89, of Prescott Valley, Ariz., born in 1920 in Camden, N.J., passed away March 20, 2010, at Hospice Family Care in Prescott, Ariz. Arizona Wakelin Bradshaw Chapel assisted the family with final arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Monday, March 29, 2010 Sarah An (Bloxsom) Bates was born in 1920 and lived 89 wonderful years before going to God on March 20, 2010. Sarah served in the U.S Navy (W.A.V.E.S.) during World War II in the Medical Corp as a Pharmacist Mate where she met her "soul mate," Calvin. They were married in Ottumwa, Iowa, in 1945 and were together for 61 years. According to Cal, Sarah was a much better wife than he could ever imagine, and their two children think she was "the best!" Sarah was active in the Girl Scouts as a child and later, as an involved parent, Sarah was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She was an awards chairman in Cub Scouts and deacon of her church in Anaheim, Calif. Surviving are two children, Carol Bates of Prescott Valley and Donald (Patti) Bates of Perris, Calif.; four grandchildren, Braun and Travis Bates, Melissa and Jessica Clark; and six great-grandchildren, Branson, Austen, Madyson, Mason, and Taylor Bates, and Shawn Clark-Palmer. Her spirit lives on. "Seek ye the Kingdom of God, His Kingdom awaits." Arizona Wakelin Bradshaw Chapel assisted the family with final arrangements. Information provided by survivors.
