ZAPF, Virginia Margaret

Virginia Margaret Zapf, born in Chicago, Illinois on March 1, 1917 to Michael and Elizabeth Engler Ludes, passed away peacefully at Westminster Village in Scottsdale on March 17, 2010. She was preceded in death by her sister Lee O'Connor, and then by her beloved husband, Joseph Zapf, with whom she shared 60 years of a loving, adventure-filled marriage. Whether starting their business, Drawn Metal Products, or building their home and raising their family in Deerfield, Illinois, their life was a true partnership. She is survived by her devoted daughters Barbara (Matthew) Saczawa and Deborah Zapf. She will be greatly missed by grandson Jeffrey Zuchowski, granddaughter Karen Flaherty, and great-grandchildren Meagan, Katie and Jack Flaherty. She is also survived by her dear niece, Leona (Michael) Klausman and her family. It truly could be said of Ginny that to know her was to love her. Her unflagging kindness and generosity to friends, family and acquaintances was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her strength and determination made her the bedrock of the family she so loved. She was a life-long learner, and shared her love for and excitement about nature, travel and the arts, especially music, with all of us, and our world is better for it. After years of family boating on Lake Michigan, the Illinois and Mississippi, Ginny and Joe found their dream home on a little lake in Land O' Lakes, Wisconsin. Those of us fortunate enough to experience the woods, wildlife, canoeing and other good times with Ginny & Joe will always remember them with a smile. While enjoying life to the fullest, Ginny never forgot those less fortunate, and gave of herself throughout her life. Visitation will be at Messinger Indian School Mortuary, 7601 E Indian School Road, Scottsdale from 5 - 7 pm on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, followed by recitation of the Rosary at 7pm. Mass will be at St. Partrick's, 10815 N 84th Street, Scottsdale at 9:30 am on Thursday, March 25, 2010, followed by interment at St. Francis Cemetery, 2033 N 48th Street, Phoenix. Donations in Virginia's name may be made to the Desert Botanical Garden, Phoenix, or to the Little Sisters of the Poor, Gallup, New Mexico.
