TOWNER, Howard D.

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 03/09/2004 Howard D. Towner, 85, of Springerville died at his home March 2, 2004. Howard was born Aug. 25, 1918 in Catlin, Illinois. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He met the love of his life, Nellie Shultz and they were married Sept. 20. 1941 and had three children. He worked as a construction supervisor, and lived in Arizona for over 45 years making many friends. Howard liked watching sports, drinking coffee and having breakfast with his friends at the local cafe. He also liked working with wood, making beautiful things. His survivors include sons, Terry Towner of Tucson, and Gary Towner of Eagar; daughter Mary Grutzius of Phoenix; and one brother Robert Towner, Illinois; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. His wife Nellie Towner precedes him in death, eight years to the day. Funeral services were held at Jewkes Mortuary Chapel in Springerville Monday, March 8. Jewkes Mortuary of Springerville was in charge of arrangements.
