HOUK, Robert


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 03/12/2004 Robert Houk, 82, died Feb. 28, 2004 in Show Low. Mr. Houk was born in Los Angeles, California and was raised in Ohio. He served in the US Army during WWII and was a Pharmacist's Mate. He served in hospitals in Bremerton, Washington, Virginia and San Diego, California. He later returned to California where he worked on the Los Angeles Police Department for 20 years. Mr. Houk and his wife moved to Phoenix in about 1972 to begin their retirement. He enjoyed traveling around the country including Alaska and Mexico. He was a great cook and especially enjoyed baking and making candy. He moved to Show Low in 1979 and enjoyed the peace and beauty of the White Mountains. For the past several years he suffered from emphysema, which ultimately took his life. Mr. Houk made many friends in Show Low and especially in the senior center, where he will be missed. He loved and appreciated his care givers Randy and Shelly. He is survived by his three sons, Robert E. Houk, Richard W. Houk, Gary A. Houk; daughter, Melanie M. Houk; cousin Audrey L. Simpson; and two grandchildren. Private services and Interment will be in the family plot at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura, California. Owens Mortuary of Show Low handled the arrangements.
