Charles E. Smock, 80, slipped peacefully from our midst to the savior's arms March 21, 2010. A proud Arizona native, Charley was born in Prescott on Dec. 1, 1929 to Charles and Mary Smock and has resided for the last 46 years in Phoenix, Ariz.
Charley graduated from Prescott High in 1947, joined the Navy in 1950, and served six years as a Seabee. He received an electrical engineering degree from U of A. He married his life sweetheart, Alice Scott in 1954 and they were married 46 years.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Alice and granddaughter, Amy Jo Keller.
Charley is survived by his five children; 21 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Charley retired from Salt River Project in 1989 after 29 years. He remained active with many community and church volunteer projects and philanthropic interests.
Charley defined what it means to be a friend. His character, humor and love of people will be greatly missed. We will miss you Charley, Dad, Grandpa and dear friend!
Visitation will be 6 p.m. and Rosary will be 7 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2010 at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 N. 59th Ave., Glendale, Ariz. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Sts. Simon & Jude Cathedral, 6351 N. 27th Ave., Phoenix, Ariz.
