Sergeant Frank Robert "Uncle Frank" Sedillo died March 23, 2010, at the Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix.
Mr. Sedillo was born Feb. 18, 1950, and grew up in the Plaza Vieja, "Old Town," neighborhood of Flagstaff. He is the third sibling of five children. He graduated from Flagstaff High School and after graduation enlisted in the United States Marine Corps from August of 1968 until his retirement in April of 1971.
He served in Vietnam and received two purple hearts during his second tour of duty. Upon returning to the United States, he was injured in an automobile accident and never fully recovered from his injuries.
If you grew up or spent time around Flagstaff over the course of the last 40 years, then it is likely you knew Uncle Frank. You likely witnessed his limp while he walked along Milton Road and Route 66 train overpass while he was getting his daily exercise. Anyone who knew Uncle Frank knew to be aware of his bear hugs, hard handshakes and his scratchy beard. You may have seen him at Jack in the Box drinking coffee or eating ice cream at Dairy Queen.
Uncle Frank is survived by his loving mother, Mary M. Sedillo; brother Abel (Lorraine) Sedillo; and sister Patricia Sedillo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Abel Sedillo, and two brothers, the Honorable James "Jim" Sedillo and Robert L. Sedillo.
