The Arizona Republic 3/28/2010 From Generation to Generation. Volk, Jeanne (maiden name Bond) born March 25th 1927, beloved wife of Philip H. Volk, devoted mother of Susan Volk Stanley of Scottsdale and Robert P. Volk of Phoenix Arizona and proud grandmother of Connor and Payton Stanley also of Scottsdale passed away on March 20th, 2010 after a short battle with Pancreatic cancer. Her family was at her bedside at Hospice of the Valley on the Mayo Hospital campus. Jeanne was born and raised in Baltimore Maryland and was a mezzo soprano graduating from the Peabody Conservatory where she held the 3 year Tiffany Voice Scholarship the second in her family to do so. Her husband, mother, father, grandfather were all gifted singers and were also Peabody Conservatory voice students. Upon graduation she became the principal soprano soloist at Christ Lutheran Church in Baltimore where she met her husband a tenor soloist Philip Volk. They went on to sing together for 40 years. Throughout her career as a singer she performed with the Baltimore Symphony and the Baltimore Concert Band at Memorial Stadium as well as appearing on the Ed Sullivan "Toast of the Town" CBS television show in 1954. Her family moved to Arizona in 1994 where she welcomed two much loved grandchildren, Connor and Payton, a son in law John H. Stanley and a daughter in law Tania Volk. Her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren grow and prosper. 14 year old Connor a promising lacrosse player and 11 year old granddaughter Payton who carries on a 100 year old tradition is the 4th generation to perform and has sung to date 27 National Anthems for Arizona's local and visiting professional sports teams before many thousands of fans. She leaves behind a devoted husband of nearly 60 years, a grieving family, and a legacy of music, laughter and love.
