The Arizona Republic 3/28/2010
Stahl, Arthur R., 81 of Ahwatukee, AZ, passed away on March 24, 2010. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on April 14, 1928, the son of Arthur E. Stahl and Delpha Rue Stahl. He is survived by his wife of 50+ years, Jeannine Cash Stahl, sons, William N. Stahl (Katherine Hallas) and Andrew L. Stahl (Geri Baca), a daughter, Katherine J. Shea (Daniel B.) and grandchildren, Laura, Danny, Ben, and Teddy. He is also survived by his brother, John (Yvonne) and nieces and nephews.
As a young man he joined the US Merchant Marines and later joined the regular United States Marine Corps and served proudly in that service until 1948 when he was honorably discharged. Always a "Proud Marine" he helped to establish a plaque at the Arizona Capitol Building dedicated to the Seagoing Marines that served on the USS Arizona. Arthur served on the USS Phillipine Sea. He married Jeannine Cash in 1956 in Frisco, Colorado and worked for the MacWhyte Wire Rope of Kenosha, Wisconsin until 1977. His 20 year career with that company involved transfers from Evansville, Indiana to Mentor, Ohio and finally back to the home office as National Sales Manager. In 1980 he opened his own business in the Phoenix area, Artweld Company, and he and Jean finally retired in that area.
Arthur had a life long love of classic cars and he was instrumental in forming the Squire SS-100 Registry, to honor and locate the 50 Jaguar Replicas that were manufactured in Italy. At the time of his death, 46 of the 50 cars had been located and the owners of those classic automobiles were proud members of the Registry. In his late 70's, he fulfilled a dream to own and play the bagpipes. He took lessons and was finally invited to join the Tempe Police Bag Pipe Band where he spent his last years thoroughly enjoying his association with that group. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Tempe Mortuary, 405 E. Southern Ave, Tempe, AZ. Arrangements entrusted to Tempe Mortuary
