SOLEY, Eileen A. Gunning

Eileen A. Gunning Soley, 84, was born in Max, North Dakota on October 27, 1916 and passed away on June 25, 2001. Eileen was the first of ten children born to Albert & Anna Lindquist. She was raised in the Max area and graduated from Max High School in 1934. Eileen graduated from Minot State Teachers College in 1937 with a degree in Education and was a member of Sigma Delta Soroity. Upon graduation she taught her first year in a country school, then in Penn, No. Dakota and on to Lansford, North Dakota where she met and married Chester Gunning on June 10, 1942. She joined the Eastern Star in 1943, was Worthy Matron in 1950 and honored with a 50-year pin. Eileen was very involved with the Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school for many years and belonged to the Lutheran Women's Group. Chet and Eileen farmed in the Lansford area until he passed away in 1958. In 1962 she moved with her two young sons to Arizona. She married Earl Soley in 1982 and both were active in numerous organizations. She was in many Bridge Clubs and very active in the Phoenix's Women's Club. Earl Soley passed away in 1993, and for the past several years Eileen has resided at the Pueblo Norte Retirement Community. Eileen is survived by her two sons, Larry Gunning of Paradise Valley, AZ and Joel Gunning Scottsdale, AZ two daughters-in law, Penny and Chandler Gunning four grandchildren, Kristi (Medrano), Billy Stern, Jennifer Gunning and Victoria Heintzelman three great-grandchidren: Lexi Medrano, Brady and Ashlyn Heintzelman and many nephews and nieces. Eileen is also survived by six brothers, Orville, Donald, Walter, Harold, Duane and Gordon Lindquist and three sisters, Frances (Brandt), Marleys (Hoch), and Clarice (Zimmerman). Services for Eileen A. Gunning Soley were held on Tuesday, July 10th, 2001, in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansford, North Dakota. Internment in Sunset Memorial Garden in Minot, North Dakota.
