HUTCHINS, Esther I.

Esther I. (Merz) Hutchins, in Saratoga, California November 3, 2001, at age 89. She is survived by her son Edward Hutchins, her daughter-in-law Eileen Hutchins, her sister-in-law Ruby Harrigan, her grandchildren Celeste and Paul Hutchins, and many nieces and nephews. Esther was raised in the St. Louis, Missouri area and attended school there. She moved to the Phoenix, Arizona area in 1944 with her husband Burtram and their son Edward. Burtram passed away in 1949. Esther worked for the federal government Selective Services and traveled extensively after retiring. She belonged to the St. Theresa Catholic Church Altar Society and was an officer of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees in Arizona. In 1989, she moved to San Jose, California, returning to Arizona the next year and then in 1999 moved to Sunnyvale, California, where she lived until her death. The funeral service was Monday at St. Joseph of Cupertino Church, 10110 North DeAnza Blvd. in Cupertino, California. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, 6400 Minnesota Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63111. The Arizona Republic November 10, 2001
