Sarah McReynolds Sanders, an identical twin born in Kokomo, Indiana, passed away on March 20, 2001.
Ms. Sanders moved with her father, T.C. McReynolds and family to Phoenix in 1917. Sarah was a long time garden consultant. As a writer, she was garden editor of the Phoenix Gazette. She also wrote articles for "Arizona Current" and "Sunset Magazine". Ms. Sanders was also co-author with Edith Mae Pulliam of a flower arrangement book entitled "Go West With Flowers". In addition, Sarah also hosted a garden and landscape television program. Ms. Sanders was also vice chairman of the Arizona section of the Women's War Bond Drive. Under Sarah's guidance, this drive was the most successful group in the U.S.
Sarah and her twin sister, Mary, were the first two original Girl Scouts in the state of Arizona.
Survivors include her three children: Mrs. Sally Woods (Tom), Mrs. Ann Whitney (Don), and Mr. Milton G. Sanders III (Lois); thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. She was loved by all.
Graveside services were held Friday, March 23rd, 2001 in the Serenity Chapel at Greenwood Memory Lawn, 2300 W. Van Buren, Phoenix. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix AZ 85014.
