Maria Luisa Romero, 81, died September 12, 2005, in Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa. She was born March 30, 1924, in Altar, Sonora, Mexico, the daughter of Rafael & Carmen Lopez. She was brought to Ajo when she was a month old and lived here the rest of her life. On August 1, 1949, she married Manuel Romero in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ajo.
A homemaker, she also enjoyed working in the school system with handicapped children. Many longtime residents remember her from the years she worked in the furniture department at Phelps Dodge Mercantile. She collected recipes and loved to cook.
She also planned many fiestas and catered countless parties. Mrs. Romero was a very organized person in all aspects of her life. She was also family oriented and enjoyed being with those near and dear to her, especially her grandchildren.
Mrs. Romero was preceded in death by her parents and by her brothers Alex and Charlie. She is' survived by her husband, Manuel Romero of Ajo; by her son & daughter-in-law, Ivan & Sharon K. Romero of Walnut Creek, California; by her daughter& son-in-law, Denise & Jim Reynosa of Tempe; by her sister,Ercelia Castro of Page; and by her grandchildren, Sina, James,& Lexi Reynosa and Nikko & Nathaniel Romero.
Private family services will be held.
Burial will be in the Ajo cemetery. Arrangements are being made by Douglass Funeral Home.
