STASKELUNAS, Robert (Bob)


The Arizona Republic 3/31/2010 Staskelunas, Robert "Bob" passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at Hospice of the Valley in Surprise, Arizona at the age of 82, surrounded by family. He entered this world July 13th 1927 in New Britain Connecticut, born to the late Anne and Anthony Staskelunas. Bob attended New Britain High School where he played football and was known as "Bulldog". After high school, he went into the Navy where he served on a PT boat during World War II. He lived in New Britain and Higganum Connecticut and later moved to Phoenix then Sun City West Arizona. For much of his life, Bob was in the automotive industry, later also trying his hand in the restaurant business. He often spent his free time coaching little league, bowling, teaching kids to swim, playing golf, woodworking and enjoying his family and friends. He was a member of the Lions Club and the American Legion. After moving to Arizona he again worked in the auto service before finally working and retiring from Thunderbird High School. Bob was an avid Yankee and Cowboys fan. He also spent many hours with his dog Buddy. Bob is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Marjorie DeMay Staskelunas, also from New Britain and Higganum Ct. and Phoenix and Sun City West Arizona. They would be married 60 years this May. He also leaves behind his daughter Diane (Dee) Staskelunas Heger and her husband Jim Heger, who was like a son to him. They are both from Higganum Ct. and currently Surprise AZ. Bob leaves three grandchildren, Robert Heger of Surprise AZ., Timothy Heger, wife Crystal of Phoenix AZ., and Ashley Heger of Mesa AZ. Bob had one great grandson, Jimmy Heger of Phoenix AZ. Bob also leaves one brother -in-law Richard DeMay and wife Dottie, nieces Linda Ringquist, husband Wayne, and Donna Porter, husband Raymond, nephews Robert Johnson, wife Leslie and Ricky Johnson all of CT., a sister Dorothy Klein of New York as well as many other loved relatives and friends across the country. He will be forever missed and never forgotten. A memorial service will be held at Camino Del Sol Funeral Home 13738 W. Camino del Sol, Sun City West at 2:00PM April 1, 2010 reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Bob to the Sun City West Fire Department 18818 N. Spanish Garden Dr. SCW, AZ 85375.
