METZGER, Ruth

The Arizona Republic 3/31/2010 Metzger, Ruth Ruggy went to be with the Lord at the age of 93 on March 30, 2010. She was born on October 3, 1916 to Rex and Eva Belle Ruggy in Salem Ohio. Ruth contracted polio in 1920 at the age of four. Due to that her right leg was six inches shorter than her left but Ruth never let that disability slow her down. She graduated from Wooster College and then got a Master's Degree in Math from Ohio Wesleyan University. During World War II she was a research physicist for the Armstrong Cork Company. After the war she married John Metzger. She was a popular math and science teacher in Lawton, Oklahoma where they lived for 10 years and in Phoenix at both Gerard High School and Shadow Mountain High School. For most of her life she was an avid bridge player and reader. She was preceded in death by her brother George in 1964 and her husband John in 1993. She is survived by her daughter Anne Eggert and son-in-law, Thomas, and her granddaughters, Jennifer and Laura Eggert. A celebration of her life will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, April 2 at Mountain View Presbyterian Church, 8050 E. Mountain View, Scottsdale. She was a lifelong cat lover so in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to The Arizona Humane Society.
